Welcome and congratulations for joining this running challenge! I’m excited to announce that this year’ Half Marathon in Swindon will be held on 11th October 2015. There will be a lot of fun and surprises for anyone who join us, so make sure you get involved!
A Brief History of the Swindon Half Marathon
As you may have heard, the half marathon is a running challenge, where the participants should pass 21 km (13.1 miles). The popularity of this sports activity is steadily growing and there are a couple of reasons for that:
- It is a hot distance – just a half of the marathon’s, but still challenging enough
- It’s the perfect way to test your limits of endurance
- Half marathons are the perfect choice for experienced runners who’d like to prepare for their participant at a marathon
- It’s fun and entertaining – the marathon is open for runners of different ages, which is the perfect way to meet new faces and make new friends.
Some say ‘You’re not a city if you don’t have your half marathon’ and I totally agree with that phrase. Swindon is one of the cities in the UK that runs their own half marathons on an yearly basis. This year the event will be held in October 2015 and it will be its 12 consecutive year. The route will be the same as each year – it is an amazing combination between beautiful landscapes in Swindon and some breath-taking countryside roads.
Depending on how much you want to push yourself, you can choose between three different types of roads, including ‘Multi Terrain Road’, ‘Fun Run’ and ‘Wheelchair Race’. You can either have an exhilarating course through the action-packed road or take the ‘Fun Run’ challenge, where people of all ages and abilities are invited. The sponsors of the event have provided for the users of manual or motorised wheelchairs by offering a 1km wheelchair race.
Sharing Thoughts About My Swindon Running Journey
My name is Alfie Abbott and I live in Walcot, Bath. I run for a variety of reasons – it’s fun, challenging and I like the feeling of being fit. In the beginning, running was just something I used to do to stay in shape. Along with the first results, I managed to improve my endurance abilities and found it quite challenging.
I define myself as a person who loves taking up new challenges. I am adventurous by nature for I like outdoor sports and activities. When I heard about the half marathon event in Swindon, it didn’t take me long to make up my mind to join. I prepared myself a 25-day preparation schedule and I can tell you that with the right motivation and training, almost anyone can pass those 13miles.
This year, it will be my fifth participation and I’m so excited that there’s finally a place, where I can share all my thoughts with running enthusiasts like me. This was the main reason I decided to create this site.
